Kakinada: An RTC bus passenger from Ayodhya Lanka village of Achanta mandal in West Godavari district caused a sensation by spraying chilli powder in the eyes of co-passengers on Sunday night.

The bus was about to reach Palakollu when the incident occurred. The passengers and the bus driver suspected that the youth, later identified as Gudala Rambabu (35), was trying to rob the passengers. He was caught and handed over to the Palakollu police.

Police said Rambabu used to work as a cook in the Gulf countries. He went to Shamshabad airport by the same bus last night. The airport rejected his travel papers, as his Visa had expired. He returned from there in the same bus, which was carrying the passengers who arrived at the airport from the Gulf to Razole in Dr BR Konaseema district. Rambabu has to board a bus at Palakollu to go to his village Ayodhyalanka.

However, when the bus was about to reach Palakollu, he sprayed chilli powder on the co-passengers. He was carrying the chilli powder and some other edibles along with him when he left his home for the Gulf to resume work there, police heard from him.

The co-passengers experienced a burning sensation in their eyes after the chilli powder spray in the bus. The passengers felt his intention might have been to rob them. They rose and caught Rambabu in a jiffy. The RTC driver later handed over Rambabu to the Palakollu police.
