A 37-year-old man was assaulted by a gang of five on Thursday night after he objected to them smoking ganja near his house in Vyasarpadi.

Bengaluru: BBMP Congress corporator’s husband and his followers allegedly assaulted two businessmen with lethal weapons in Jeevan Bima Nagar police limits on Sunday night.

The victims, Vijay Kumar and Suresh, who are brothers, accused Thippasandra ward corporator Shilpa’s husband Abhilash Reddy of assaulting them.

Vijay and Suresh own a steel shop on Thippasandra Main Road and right in front of their shop, the storm water drain work is going on for the past one week. As the construction work was affecting their business, they approached Abhilash Reddy and requested him to finish the work soon. But this allegedly angered Abhilash and he got into a fight with them. Abhilash allegedly asked the two brothers for Rs 2 lakh to complete the works.

On Sunday night, Reddy’s followers, Manjunath and Swamynathan, picked up a fight with the brothers and assaulted them with lethal weapons. They were immediately rushed to a hospital, for treatment. Later, they filed the complaint with the Jeevan Bima Nagar police.

Abhilash Reddy, who spoke to the media, denied all the allegations made by the two brothers and said that neither he nor his followers were involved in the incident.

The Jeevan Bima Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
