Hyderabad: A 10-month-old infant suffered severe burn injuries and his parents also suffered burns in an attack by an ex-husband of the infant’s mother at Narayanaguda late Monday.

The police identified the accused as Nagula Sai, who allegedly set his ex-wife, S. Aarthi, her live-in partner Nagaraju and their child, Vishnu, afire by pouring petrol.

Aarthi and Sai married eight years ago and had a son, Charan, but separated due to differences. She and her son shifted to her mother Laxmibhai’s house in Chikkadpally and started selling flowers to make a living, during which she got acquainted with Nagaraju.

She and Nagaraju started living around two years ago and had a child.

The police said that Aarthi, Nagaraju and Vishnu were at Laxmibhai’s flower stall on Monday night, when Sai attacked them. He doused them with petrol, lit the trail afire and fled the spot.

Narayanaguda police inspector R. Srinivas Reddy said that an attempt to murder case was registered against Sai. “The couple received up to 40 per cent burns. Their statements are also being recorded. Special teams have been deputed to nab Sai,” he said.
