Mantralayam pilgrims rescue minor from temple employee

KURNOOL: Mantralayam police arrested a 48-year-old man on charges of sexual harassment on a 12-year-old girl on Friday. According to sub-inspector U Venugopal Raju, a family of four from Baidoddi village in Raichur district had come to Mantralayam temple on Thursday.

After they checked into a lodge, one Damodar, a temple employee, approached the girl when she was alone and took her with him on the pretext of purchasing snacks. In his quarters, he tried to rape her. The girl began to scream, which was heard by some pilgrims, who rushed to the spot and rescued the girl. They apprehended the accused. On learning about the incident, the police reached the spot and took Damodar into custody.

A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (PoCSO) and 354 of clause (A) IPC has been filed against the accused, who will be produced in court on Saturday, said Venugopal Raju.
