Newborn Girl Abandoned in Hospital Toilet in Odisha

The Narayanguda police registered a case against Fernandez Hospital, Boggulkunta, on charges of negligence in providing treatment to a newborn male child which resulting in his nose getting disfigured. Narayanguda station house officer G. Srinivasu said a case was registered under IPC Section 337 against the doctor who treated the child. (DC)

BHUBANESWAR: A newborn baby girl was on Saturday found lying in the toilet of Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Odisha’s Bolangir district.

As per reports, the baby was found in the washroom of the female medicine general ward by the patients. The nurses on duty were subsequently informed and they rescued the newborn and alerted the doctor.

A thorough medical examination was done and it was found that the newborn was underweight. Later, the baby girl was then admitted to the SNCU.

Sources said the mother of the baby abandoned her child after delivery at the hospital.

On being informed, the District Child Protection Officer started a probe in connection with the incident.

Earlier on June 11, a newborn baby boy, who had allegedly been abandoned by his parents for being a Divyang one, was rescued from a private hospital by the Childline officials with the help of police in Bolangir.

According to sources, a couple fled a private hospital leaving their newborn divyang boy behind in the toilet. The baby was born on June 7.

After getting information, Childline officials reached the hospital only to find the staff non-cooperative. Then, they sought the help of the Baidyanathpur police and rescued the baby from the toilet.
