Hyderabad: A 22-year-old man was arrested for alleged kidnap and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl from Abdullapurmet.

The accused who was working at a tea stall developed a friendship with the girl and took her away. The police rescued her from Medchal and handed her over to her parents.

Abdullapurmet sub-inspector G. Uday Kiran said that the accused U. Shiva Kumar, 22, a native of Kandukur, used to work in a tea shop, while the victim’s father sold fruit juices opposite the hotel. During the summer vacation, the girl used to accompany her father to work.

Shiva developed a friendship with the girl and lured her on the pretext of love. A month ago, they tried to elope, but their plan was foiled by her parents, who noticed that the girl was talking to him regularly. Meanwhile, Shiva also left his job and joined elsewhere.

On Tuesday, the girl’s mother scolded her for not being attentive at home and not showing an interest in her studies. Upset with that, she called Shiva and asked him to whisk her away.

Following a complaint from her father, a kidnap and PoCSO case was registered against Shiva. He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Saturday.

In another incident, the Rajendranagar police booked a case against one Vamshi, 19, a resident of Bhavani Colony for kidnapping a 16-year-old girl from his neighbourhood on July 6. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, the police registered a case and a probe is on.
