Mr Kumaraswamy had pulled up the government for not taking action against the BJP corporator.

Mysuru: State Janata Dal (Secular) chief  H.D. Kumarswamy took reporters here by surprise on Monday by first claiming that a BJP corporator had given a supari to kill alleged Hindu activist, Deepak Rao in Mangaluru and then clarifying within hours that he may have been misinformed about it.

Defending himself, however, he said he was not trying to mislead the investigation or deliberately make unfounded allegations. “I  only provided the information I was given. Why should I reveal the corporator's name? Let the government investigate and find out who he is. I did not use the word supari in this case for the first time. The media too has reported that the supari for Deepak's killing was given from Dubai,” he contended.

Maintaining that his party only wanted peace to be restored in coastal Karantaka, he added, “We do not want to  provoke further trouble. We wanted to hold a peace meeting in Mangaluru on Tuesday, but it is not the right time to do sand so we have postponed it. ”

Earlier, Mr Kumaraswamy had pulled up the government for not taking action against the BJP corporator, who, he claimed had given a supari to kill the alleged activist. “I have information that there are several BJP leaders involved in Deepak’s murder. I am saying this based on information that I have received about the investigation. Why is the government not exposing them? Is there an understanding between the  BJP and the Congress government ahead of the assembly elections? " he had demanded.
