Hyderabad: Fed up with the alleged delay of electricity officials in attending to a complaint, a farmer climbed an electric pole and rectify the defect himself. The farmer, Ravinder Reddy, informed the electricity staff that he would be climbing the pole and took ‘line clearance’. However, power was restored immediately, leading to Ravinder being electrocuted.

A case of causing death due to negligence was registered against the lineman and helper of Muthireddygudem substation at Motakondur PS in Yadadri district.

The farmer’s family and villagers staged a protest on the main road demanding action on the electricity staff and compensation to his family. Electricity and revenue officials assured them of compensation after which they withdrew the protest.

Ravinder Reddy, 50, of Kondapur in Motakondur, had lodged the complaint on Wednesday regarding a faulty line passing through his house. When they did not turn up on Thursday, he decided to resolve matters himself. He allegedly secured a 10-minute ‘line clearance’ and climbed the pole when the tragedy occurred.

SI Madhu said the case was under under investigation.
