Nellore: Vedayapalem police arrested four persons involved in a robbery and recovered Rs 25.50 lakh, including gold worth Rs 6.13 lakh, on Tuesday.

Police are on the lookout for two more persons involved in the robbery. All six of them robbed Rs 83.80 lakh belonging to a lorry transporter on March 29 this year.

According to town DSP, N.B.M. Muralikrishna, the main accused in the case, Madhava, was working as a driver in a lorry transport firm, whose proprietor was Ravilla Ramesh of Auto Nagar in Nellore.

Ramesh used to transport rice belonging to a trader Chava Suresh of Dagadarthi to Chennai and pay the cash collected from traders at Chennai.

In this backdrop, Ramesh has instructed driver Madhava and staff, Jeeva, Damodar Rao and Babu Rao to hand over Rs 83.80 lakhs to one Chava Ramesh of Marripadu on March 29.

Since election code was in force and vehicle checks were rampant everywhere then, he advised them to put the cash in a gunny bag and take it in a lorry.

Madhava, who was waiting for an opportunity to make quick money, devised a plot to steal the cash along with his friends, K. Madhava Raj, Bengal Nirmal Roy, Peddireddy Sivaprasad Reddy, Shaik Anwar and Dontali Siva.

As per the plan, Madhav travelled in the lorry carrying cash and his friends followed the vehicle in an auto rickshaw.

Siva climbed into the lorry when the vehicle slowed down near the lorry yard at Kovur and dumped the gunny bag containing the cash. He too alighted from the vehicle and boarded the auto.

After a while, Madhava also got down from the vehicle under the pretext of some urgent work.  Jeeva, who was driving the lorry, and others realised after reaching Marripadu that the gunny bag containing cash was stolen. They alerted Ramesh and he lodged a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile Madhava and others shared Rs 14 lakhs each from the stolen cash at Madhava’s residence and disbursed.

Police team investigating into the case rounded off Madhava Raj, Nirmal Roy, Sivaprasad Reddy and Shaik Anwar near Nellore City on Tuesday.

They are on the look out for Madhava and Siva. Dy SP said the balance cash is with the two accused, who are at large.
