Bengaluru: Girl dies imitating suicide scene on TV

Bengaluru: In a bizarre incident a minor girl allegedly ended her life while enacting a suicide scene from a teleserial she was watching in Bagalagunte police station limits on Sunday night.

The 11-year-old girl, Pooja, died after she hung herself to a wall hanger using a towel at her house in Mallasandra. She was a fifth standard student of a private school.

She was the daughter of Rangegowda and Sharada, who run a roadside eatery near their house. Pooja was home alone when the incident happened, the police said.

According to the police, Pooja who had gone to the shop with her mother and younger brother, but later returned home for dinner.

She went to a nearby shop to buy curd at around 7 pm and returned home. One of her neigbours claimed Pooja was alive around 8 pm and watching a serial.

However, when her parents returned home around 9:30 pm, they found Pooja hanging to a wall hanger. The couple got Pooja down and rushed her to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.

The police rushed to the spot examined the house and said that preliminary investigation revealed no foul play in her death.

Their house was located in a densely populated area, but the neighbours claimed they did not hear anything suspicious. Police suspect that Pooja was trying to enact a suicide scene and ended her life.

The Bagalgunte police have taken up a case and are awaiting parents to finish her last rites, to resume questioning.
