Karnataka High Court allows NIA to probe Rudresh murder

The court in an interim order passed the directions while hearing the appeal filed by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Bengaluru: A division bench of the Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered that subject to the result of the writ appeal, the National Investigation Agency shall continue with the investigations into the murder of RSS leader R. Rudresh.The court in an interim order passed the directions while hearing the appeal filed by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The MHA had challenged the order of a single judge bench which had set aside its order directing the NIA to probe Rudresh murder. The bench had ordered Commercial Street Police to investigate the killing.The MHA in December 2016 under Section 6(5) of the NIA Act had passed the order and directed the NIA to register a case.

Popular Front of India leader Asim Sharif and others had initially approached the high court on various grounds. The single judge had partly allowed their plea while setting aside the order of MHA directing NIA to probe the murder.

Five people were arrested for their alleged roles in the murder. RSS worker Rudresh was hacked to death by two motorcycle-borne men on October 16, last year in Bengaluru.
