Balapur murder case: Accused held

HYDERABAD: Balapur police said they had arrested a 27-year-old who murdered his relative for trying to protect his niece from being molested, in Mallapur village.

Police said the accused early on Monday noticed that the woman, 23, was alone and molested her. She raised an alarm and her 30-year-old relative rushed to her rescue. Angry at this, the accused went to his house, returned with a dagger and stabbed the relative and fled.

Locals who gathered on hearing the commotion rushed the relative to a private hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival, police said. The accused and relative had come from Bastar district, Chhattisgarh, six months back and were working as labourers in a private company, Balapur inspector B. Bhaskar said.

Police formed two teams who tracked down the accused.
