Hyderabad: Panjagutta police have found no proof so far of the claims of a businessman, B.V. Murali Krishna, who had claimed that he had been kidnapped by a gang impersonating income-tax officials and had been freed after his family paid Rs 30 lakh. He had claimed that his brother-in-law I. Rajesh  had also been kidnapped and beaten up.

Sources said police had begun verifying CCTV footage and call records of the victim and his family members.

Police verified CCTV camera footage at Ameerpet from where the victim claimed he was kidnapped on January 27, and Panjagutta, from where brother-in-law was reportedly kidnapped, but could not find any images to support his claims.

Inquiries in the shops located in the area also did not yield evidence to support the victim's claims. Police also started identifying people who had arranged cash to pay the gang.

The victim's brother-in-law in his statement to the police told that he had handed over Rs 30 lakh to three men, near Nampally railway station, but primary inquiries did not give any such evidence.

Police are grilling the victim and his brother-in-law to dig out the facts. Earlier the duo claimed they are yet to come out of the shock of being beaten up, threatened at knife point and looted.
