Vijayawada: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) authorities swung into action and raided a private blood bank at Gudivada for operating in violation of norms and without a proper licence.

According to Gudivada drug inspector Dr J. Balu, MSR Blood Bank was resorting to storage, cross-matching and selling of blood despite its licence was cancelled.

Based on a complaint made in January, the blood bank was inspected and 12 blood bags of blood, three empty blood bags, blood storage refrigerators, equipment like Elisa washer and reader and some documents were seized.

Balu said that the blood bank was operated through a lab technician identified as Amarnath under the supervision of a Vijayawada-based doctor identified as Gopi and added that the quantum of seizure was about Rs. 7-8 lakh.

The drugs inspector said that as provision 18 (C ) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 was flouted, they booked a case and produced the culprits before the concerned court.
