Hyderabad: For rejecting his declaration of love, a stalker attacked a 17-year-old girl with a billhook, leaving the minor with 15 stab injuries, four to her head, and a slim chance of survival.

M Rajeshwari, wife of Laxman, and aunt of the girl said, “We heard the screaming of our girl and came out and saw that she was in a pool of blood. We rushed her immediately to a nearby private hospital. None of the people came to her rescue. Everyone saw the attack like it was a film.”

Bharath alias Sonu reportedly ran to his house which is 15 feet away and escaped but was caught eight hours later. M. Ramesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Zone, said, “For the last one year the accused Bharath alias Sonu has been harassing the victim to accept his love. We constituted four special teams along with East Zone task force and nabbed him at the railway parcel office near Kacheguda Railway Station. We have recovered the billhook, which was used for attacking the victim, from the accused’s residence.”

The accused has been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder), and 354-D of the IPC, Sec 27 of the Arms Act and Sec 12 of the PoCSO Act.

According to M. Ramulu, the victim’s father, Bharath, has been harassing his daughter for over two years. An oral complaint was lodged with the SHE teams.

The boy was called for counselling and let off on January 7. He gave a written undertaking that he will not harass the girl.

“Bharath was harassing my daughter. Even before we complained to the SHE teams, I spoke to him and his family. He and the family assured us that the girl will not be harassed. I never expected that he would harm my daughter to this magnitude. He should be punished severely,” Mr Ramulu said.
