Odisha man paraded for minor's rape

SAMBALPUR: A man was on Saturday apprehended by angry locals for allegedly raping a minor girl. 

The mob thrashed and paraded the accused with a shoe garland around his neck before being handed over to the police at BTM outpost.

The 55-year-old accused, identified as Pradeep Bag from Ektali village in the district was detained for interrogation after the duo were sent for medical examination.

As per sources, the accused - a neighbour of the victim - called the victim to his house finding no one at her home. He reportedly called the 13-year-old girl in the pretext of giving her food. Unaware of his intentions, she went into the house following which the tormentor shut the door and raped her.

The children playing nearby heard the girl crying and informed their parents. Locals, Childline officials and police forced open the door to find the duo inside. The minor was rescued and sent to Childline.

The orphaned girl was staying with her relatives and studying in a nearby school. Locals staged a demonstration in front of the local police station demanding action. The incident has sent shock waves in the area.
