Drunk driver hits pedestrian in Hyderabad

Suspect drank liquor at party and was driving home.

Hyderabad: A drunk motorist hit a pedestrian at Karmanghat early on Wednesday and tried to flee from the spot. The victim, R. Yadagiri, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a corporate hospital.

Police tracked down the vehicle involved in the mishap and identified the driver as one Ratnakar Reddy. Police said the incident happened at Gayathrinagar.

The suspect was driving at a high speed and the victim was trying to cross the road.  The driver went to the extreme left of the road and dashed against the victim who was about to cross the road.

Though the suspect tried to escape after the incident, police caught him with the help of locals.  Police suspects that the car driver had got drunk at a party he had attended and was driving back home, although fully intoxicated.

A few days back another drunk driver hit a five-year-old girl and her mother while they were crossing the road at Peddamberpet. Both are in hospital now. Cases of drunk driving have been increasing in the city although the police is carrying out checks on drunken driving. The police has carried out several surprise checks in many city areas.
