Bengaluru: A 47-year-old son of a former MLA of Belagavi Sambhajirao Patil was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Yeshwanthpur Railway station, while he was travelling in a train to Belagavi on Monday late night.

According to a Railway police officer the body of the deceased, Sagar Patil, was found 20 metres away from the track.

The incident came to light when one of the passengers noticed the body and alerted the beat police. Police said that Sagar had come to the city along with his friends to attend a court hearing. The incident happened while he was returning to Belagavi in Rani Chennamma Express and was travelling in an AC coach. The train left Bengaluru City Railway Station around 9.15 pm and reached Yeshwanthpur by 9.30 pm.

Sagar told his friends that he was going to the toilet but never returned. They searched him in the train, but they could not find him. When they called his mobile, there was no response.  Police found the mobile phone beside the body and when they checked the call records and called the last number, they got to know that he was the son of former MLA.

Police informed his friends about the incident and they got down at Tumakuru station and returned to Yeshwanthpur. Police suspect he might have slipped and fallen off the train. Sagar had sustained severe head injury and died on the spot.

They are investigating how he fell down from the moving train.
