Hyderabad: Sub-Inspector suspended for dowry harassment

Hyderabad: A sub-inspector of police was awarded one year of imprisonment in a dowry harassment case of 2010 in Nalgonda.

According to the police, the accused sub-inspector, Mr Yousuf Jani was working as Prohibition sub-inspector of police in Munagala mandal when he married Raheema on May 5, 2009. Allegedly he took Rs 30 lakh as dowry and started demanding for more later.

Narayan Reddy, sub-inspector of police, Chilkur, Suryapet district, said, “After a year of marriage the accused demanded more money. Following this Raheema lodged a dowry harassment complaint in 2010.”

After trial, magistrate B. Priyanka of a local court in Kodada, pronounced one year of imprisonment and Rs 5000 as fine. If he is not able to pay the fine, he has to undergo one more month of imprisonment, according to the court order.
