Thiruvananthapuram: The Attingal police on Monday arrested a person  for allegedly hacking his friend to death at Nagarakavu near Chirayankeezhu a day earlier. The accused Murukan, 41,  of Nainamkonam, Kizhuvillam murdered Dileep, 32,  for allegedly continuing an affair with his wife in spite of several warnings.

The woman, a former neighbour of Dileep, a painter,   had  an affair with him  even before her marriage. However, Dileep  left for a Gulf country some years back.  Later, she married Murukan and they have a daughter. However, Dileep re-established his relationship  with the woman over phone. He also befriended Murukan who was working in another company in the Gulf country.

Murukan, who learnt about the affair,  returned to Kerala three months back. Dileep, who came on leave last month,  started visiting his house in spite of repeated warnings. “On Sunday, Murukan dashed his bike against Dileep’s two-wheeler. Both had an argument and while Dileep was picking up the fallen bike,   Murukan slashed his neck with a machete. Dileep resisted a second hacking attempt with his hand and yelled.  Murukan,  who left the spot,   was arrested later,” police  said.

Dileep succumbed to his injuries  though he was taken to Chirayankeezhu hospital. Two women  witnesses who saw Murukan running away with a blood-stained shirt gave statements to the police. The bike left at the spot by the accused also served as evidence. He was arrested by a team led by Attingal DySP R. Chandrasekharan Pillai.
