Hyderabad: 22-year-old arrested for sexual assault of minor

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old man from LB Nagar was arrested by the LB Nagar police on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a minor girl at her residence.

The victim (14), a class VII student, along with her mother, and younger brother, migrated to the city after her father's demise last year. The three were living in a rented apartment in Mansoorabad, and the mother was running a tiffin centre in Kothapet.

The accused, identified as Sathish (22), a water supplier from Mansoorabad, established contact with the girl in May. A few days into talking to her, he claimed that he had fallen in love with her after which, they began talking regularly on the phone, and he threatened her against letting her mother know about their relationship. Yet the girl opened up to her mother, who then scolded Sathish and asked him to stay away from her daughter.

The victim was alone at home on June 1 when Sathish barged into the house and sexually assaulted her. On learning about the assault, the victim's mother immediately lodged a complaint with the LB Nagar police.

LB Nagar inspector V Ashok Reddy said, "Based on the complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case was registered against Sathish under the POCSO Act and he was placed under the arrest and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday," he said.
