HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police investigating the alleged honour killing of a Dalit youth, Devarakonda Harish Kumar, for marrying a girl from another community at Petbasheerabad, have arrested 11 persons for their alleged involvement, including the girl’s elder brother B. Deendayal, a contract employee with the GHMC.

Petbasheerabad inspector Gouri Prashanth said that Deendayal along with T. Naresh and P. Venkatesh Goud attacked the victim with knives, while the other accused assisted them at various stages.

Police said Deendayal got to know about the relationship after seeing his sister chatting with Harish over Instagram. He warned her and Harish and his brother-in-law-Shekar. However, the Harish and the girl continued their relationship.

On February 22, when the girl was in college, Harish met her and they eloped. Unable to know locate them, Deendayal even went to Kalburagi (Gulbarga) in Karnataka to track them down.

Meanwhile, he came into contact with Mathangi Rajendra Kumar, who had arranged a security guard’s job for Harish at Dulapally. After finalising a plan to kill Harish and take away his sister, Deendayal roped in Rajendra Kumar and his partner Gouti Navanitha.

As per the plan, on March 1, Rajendra Kumar and Navanitha called the couple for a meeting. Soon after they came, Deendayal and his accomplices pounced on Harish, stabbed him to death and fled. The others forcefully took away the girl from the spot.
