Chennai: Road mishap claims life of auto driver

The bus- route number 32 B was moving towards Ice House from Korukkupet.

A total of 672 pedestrians perished in road accidents in the first nine months of this year.

Chennai: A 33-year-old auto driver was killed when his two-wheeler got knocked down by a MTC bus near Anna Salai on Wednesday night. The victim was identified as Syed Kasim (33) of Seven wells. He was on his way back home on his motorcycle after meeting a friend when the accident happened. He was riding along Anna Salai when he lost control of the bike near Periyar Statue. He first hit a jeep and suffered a fall when the MTC bus trailing him ran over him.

The bus- route number 32 B was moving towards Ice House from Korukkupet. Kasim was secured and moved to the Rajiv Gandhi Governme-nt General Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said that he was not wearing a helmet and suffered grievous head injuries, leading to his death.

Based on a complaint from his sister, Shakina, police have registered cases under sections 279 IPC (rash driving) and 304 A (Causing death due to negligence) against the driver Nagaselvam, 32 of Arupukottai.
