Hyderabad: The police on Saturday filed a petition with the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), requesting custody of the five juveniles who are accused of gangraping their 17-year-old classmate at her residence in Hayathnagar and filming the act.

Police sources, indicating that they are likely to get custody by December 5, said that they would record the juveniles’ statements and determine the sequence of events. They will also probe if the videos of the assault were forwarded to others, which may lead to more arrests, they said.

The police had recorded the victim’s statement on November 28, following which five boys were taken into custody, subjected to potency and bone density tests, produced at the LB Nagar JJB and detained at Saidabad Juvenile Home, all on November 29.

The custody request was filed by Vanasthalipuram ACP K. Purushotham Reddy, investigating officer in the case.

The police said that they hardly had time to question the juveniles; they had confessed to having followed the girl to her home during the lunch break on the pretext of borrowing her science guide and committing the crime.

The police seized three mobile phones containing the videos of the assaults and filed relevant cases under the POCSO Act and the IT Act.
