Telangana: Five held for robbing TV artiste, her sister

Police recovered a mobile phone and a hunt is on to nab the two other members of the gang.

A five-member gang including a GHMC contract sanitary supervisor and a student, who assaulted a television artiste and her sister and robbed them of their gold, scooter and a mobile phone in Balanagar, was arrested by the police on Saturday.

Hyderabad: A five-member gang including a GHMC contract sanitary supervisor and a student, who assaulted a television artiste and her sister and robbed them of their gold, scooter and a mobile phone in Balanagar, was arrested by the police on Saturday. Police recovered a mobile phone and a hunt is on to nab the two other members of the gang. The arrested persons were identified as G. Venkatesh Goud, 25, GHMC contract sanitary supervisor M. Mahender Reddy, 25, U. Sai Sagar, 18, a student, and kennel owner K. Jagadeesh Kumar, 31, all residents of Madannapet.

Balanagar ACP N. Narasimha Reddy said that on November 28, the artiste N. Dhanasree and her sister Sreelatha were returning home on their scooter from Purple Pub in Begumpet. When they reached Yousufguda their scooter skidded and they fell down from the vehicle. “Two unknown people who were passing by saw them and offered to drop them home as they had suffered minor injuries. The women agreed to their offer and one of them got on to the pillion of the strangers’ bike and the other one sat on the pillion of the artiste's scooter, and it was driven by the second stranger,” ACP Narsimha Reddy said.

They drove the women to a lonely lane in Balanagar and after assaulting them, robbed their scooter, mobile phone and a 15-tola gold chain and fled from the spot. Based on Dhanasree's complaint the police started an investigation. After receiving credible information, police nabbed the duo and recovered a mobile phone from them. Police found that Venkatesh Goud was involved in six rioting cases in Saidabad and Sai Sagar and Jagadeesh Kumar were  involved in robbery cases in Balanagar police station area. The arrested persons were remanded to custody. A hunt is on to nab the absconding accu-sed.
