Tamil Nadu: SP catches 2 police taking money from truck driver

Coimbatore: In a dramatic development, two lower level police personnel including were virtually caught red-handed by no less a person than the district SP himself, while the duo received a bribe from a truck driver on Thursday night in the suburbs of Coimbatore.

A special sub-inspector and a head constable found themselves in deep trouble when one of their superior officers, the district SP, P. Moorthy, driving on the L& T bypass road after a surprise inspection, noticed two cops with a highway patrol jeep, checking vehicles headed towards Kerala, near Kallapalayam Pirivu. 

The SP hung on there for a while only to further notice that the two cops blocked a truck overloaded with cattle, possibly heading for a slaughter house in Kerala, murmured to the truck drivers and let the vehicle pass after receiving some cash from them. 

Under suspicion, the SP enquired with the truck drivers and launched an investigation at the spot in the presence of the erring cops. Their misdemeanor was quickly passed on to the police city control room and the message conveyed to the Coimbatore commissioner, Mr. A. Amal Raj. On receiving the information, the commissioner passed an order to transfer both the cops to the armed reserve police and directed a departmental enquiry for further action.
