Metrology department conducts raids at stock points

The officials seized goods worth Rs 5.16 crore and registered 11 cases on Sachdev Overseas Fitness Private Limited.

The possible coming together of online retailers Flipkart-Amazon combine may face close scrutiny for competition issues as the combined entity will be a dominant player in the fast growing Indian e-commerce market, according to experts.

Hyderabad: Legal metrology officials conducted raids at Delivery Private Limited, a delivery point for Amazon and Flipkart, and registered cases for violation of various Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules. The officials registered 113 cases and seized goods worth Rs 12 crores.

“Flipkart and Amazon are facilitators for various companies. We found their facilitator Delivery Private Limited was violating rules. It is mandatory for platform companies also to comply with the rules and they are liable for violations” said an official of the Legal Metrology Department.

The officials, who split into teams, also checked Big Bazaar Stock Point, Maggi Food Products, Dabur India Limited, LG Electronics Products and Philips C/o Vulcan Express Private Limited at Kondlakoya. They also raided Vodafone stock point, Himayala Drug Company, Samsung Godowns, Havells India Limited, Sachdev Overseas Fitness Private Limited, Vester Daikin ACs, Butterfly stock point and Sky worth TV.

The officials seized goods worth Rs 5.16 crore and registered 11 cases on Sachdev Overseas Fitness Private Limited at Kandlakoya in Medchal. Another 45 cases were registered at Big Bazaar stock point and goods worth Rs 46 lakh seized.
