BENGALURU: A Zilla Panchayat member allegedly manhandled a woman and tried to vandalize an under construction house in Chokkanahalli in Rajankunte on Sunday morning.

The police said that Venkatesh, a Zilla Panchayat Member in Rajankunte, went to Chokkanahalli and attempted to vandalize an under construction house. While he damaged a few materials meant for the construction, the owner of the house Renukeshwar and his wife rushed to the spot. They got into a heated argument and Venkatesh manhandled Renukeshwar's wife. The passersby and neighbours intervened and pacified them.

Later Renukeshwar and his wife approached Rajankunte police and lodged a complaint against Venkatesh. The ZP member claimed that they were constructing a house in the land belonging to the government and went to stop the work. But Renukeshwar told the police that he had all the necessary documents to prove that the land belonged to him, police said. Rajankunte police have registered a case under Section 354 IPC against Venkatesh and begun investigation.
