Hyderabad: Despite falling to execute the 100-day action plans in two consecutive years, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation embarked on a 61-day action plan to achieve top rank in Swachh Survekshan 2018.

The corporation chalked out an action plan to execute a special activity for raising awareness among citizens. The Ministry of urban development started the ‘Swachh Survekshan’ survey for ranking cities on cleanliness and other aspects of urban sanitation.

The survey was being conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI), an autonomous body established by the Centre, for quality assurance in all spheres of activities, including governance.

After competing with 434 cities, Hyderabad secured the 22nd rank in Swachh Survekshan in 2017. To overcome the drawbacks and stay among 10 cities in the current year’s Swachh rankings, the civic body prepared an action which would have special activities for 61 days. The plan included formation of swachh committees in every school and compost units in every market, apart from setting up a dry resource centre in each of the circles. Officials were asked to coordinate with petrol pumps to ensure that the public toilets were available on their premises.

Swachh Survekshan 2018 have 4,000 marks which would be for civic amenities provided by the authorities and citizens who play a vital role in the city in earning these marks.

Of this, 1,200 marks were to be personally monitored by Swachh Bharath Mission and there would also be negative marks. Swachh Survekshan would be carried in three parts.

The first for 1,200 marks would cover technical aspects of sanitation that help improve the city, the second for 1,400 marks would be on the basis of visual observation by the QCI team and the final part, also of 1,400 marks, would be for Citizen Feedback on cleanliness through Swachhata     app or My GHMC complaint redressal mechanism.

Officials claimed that the plan would keep Hyderabad among the top 10 cities in Swachh Survekshan 2018 rankings.
