Hyderabad: The Neredmet police arrested an auto driver and his accomplices for assaulting a police officer and causing public nuisance leading to a traffic jam late on Saturday night.

The arrested were identified as N. Shiva, 42, D. Santosh, 24, D. Sai, 23, and M. Srikanth, said the police.

“On Saturday, while the Neredmet police was checking vehicles at RK Puram check post in view of the general elections, Shiva was in an inebriated state and stopped the autorickshaw in the middle of the road. While the sub-inspector of Neredmet, D. Mahender, requested him to move his autorickshaw to the side so that he does not obstruct traffic, Shiva started abusing the officer and pushed him, causing his name plate to fall off. The other police officers moved the autorickshaw to the side. Meanwhile, the driver called up three men and blocked RK Puram flyover, further causing traffic jam and created public nuisance,” the police said.

“The four men assaulted the S-I and other police officers and also abused them in a filthy language to deter a public servant from discharging his duties,” the police added.

They were taken to the police station where cases were booked against them under relevant Sections of IPC and they were sent to judicial remand.
