Attack on St Gregorious Orthodox church: Accused remanded

ALAPPUZHA:  Three youths who were arrested in  connection with the attack on Karimulackal  St Gregorious Orthodox church on Sunday were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by the Additional District Magistrate Court, Mavelikara, on Monday. The accused,  Sarunkumar  of  Karimulakkal, Sanalraj and Sunu of  Thamarakkulam, BJP activists, had  attacked vicar M.K. Varghese Corepiscopa, when he came to the church for the Easter prayer at 2.30 a.m.  The window panes of the church were shattered in stone-pelting.

The police said that there had been a dispute in connection with  the construction of a cemetery, which might have led to the attack.     An all-party meeting held at the church on Sundayprotested against the attack.  The BJP district leadership said the party didn't have any role in the attack.
