Kozhikode: The father of a newborn boy was  taken into custody on Thursday, allegedly for  selling  him   to a couple in Kozhikode south beach.   The police took the  11-day-old child  to the Child Welfare Committee, who  handed over the baby to the foundling home on Thursday. The neighbours had alerted the police after  they saw the infant  in  the house of a couple, who were childless for over  18 years.

The police  found  that the baby was handed over to the couple by its biological parents  at  Payyanackal. Panniyankara SI  V.K. Kamarudheen, who is investigating the case, told DC that the father would be arrested under the juvenile justice Act. However, since the baby needs immediate care, they will  ensure a safe stay for him and later take  other legal procedures.  It was not clear whether the family ‘sold’ the baby or handed him over out of poverty.
