Robber stabs husband, loots gold from wife

Tirupati: An unidentified miscreant attacked a couple to snatch gold ornaments while they were returning home in a motorcycle, leading to the instantaneous death of a 30-year-old man and causing injuries to his wife. She is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The incident took place near Kothakunta village under Punganur constituency in Chittoor district in the late hours of Monday, but came to light on Tuesday morning after the local police registered a case.

According to Peddapanjani sub-inspector K. Swarna Teja, the deceased, identified as P. Damodar, hailing from Bathalapuram of Punganur mandal got married to P. Anuradha, 19, of Penugollu in Peddapanjani mandal, a year ago. Damodar visited his in-laws’ house in Penugollu along with his wife on Sunday and was returning home on Monday night when the incident occurred.

“According to the complainant, an unidentified miscreant intercepted the couple when their motorcycle reached Kothakunta and threw chilli powder into their eyes. The thief snatched the gold ornaments of Anuradha and when her husband tried to resist he stabbed him, leading to bleeding injuries and instantaneous death”, Swarna Teja told Deccan Chronicle.

In the attack, Anuradha suffered minor injuries and was shifted to a hospital by the locals. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and enquired about the incident. Based on the complaint lodged by Anuradha, Peddapanjani mandal police registered a case and CI Ashok Kumar is investigating the case.
