6 arrested for abducting and 'selling' 4-year-old girl

Police arrested them when they were about to travel to Rajasthan and deliver the girl to an unidentified buyer for Rs 60,000.

Mumbai: Six people, including three women, have been arrested for allegedly abducting and selling a 4-year-old girl, a senior police official said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The victim was kidnapped from near her residence in suburban Mulund on Sunday.

Following the complaint of her family, police swung into action and nabbed the accused on Tuesday, the official said.

Dilip Dhuriya (33), Toofan Nishad (33), Mohd Sahjad Shah (33), Sangeeta Mahadev Lagade (40), Mangal Shankar Chandanshive (26) and Mamata Raj (21) were arrested from Vartak Nagar in neighbouring Thane when they were about to travel to Rajasthan and deliver the girl to an unidentified buyer who had agreed to pay Rs 60,000.

The accused had received advance of Rs 5,000 from the buyer, the police said.

The girl was reunited with her family, police said, adding that more arrests were likely.

As per the initial investigation, the accused worked in a liquor bar, the official said. Further probe was underway.
