Six ganja peddlers arrested, Rs 17 lakh worth ganja seized

VIJAYAWADA: Gudivada police on Thursday nabbed six persons involved in ganja peddling and recovered six kgs of the banned substance worth Rs. 17 lakh.

The police team, led by DSP N Satyanandam,  arrested the habitual offenders near the old Kozylon factory under Gudivada rural limits, following a tip-off. The police said that SP Ravindranath Babu had issued instructions that no one involved in such nefarious activities would be spared.

The culprits also portrayed themselves as special party police from the vigilance department, conducting checks and seized money and valuables from the victims.

They were  culprits were identified as M. Venkanna (33) from Vijayawada, M. Murali Krishna (38) Ranga Reddy district (TS), M. Kasi Vishwanath (40) Guntur, E. Naresh (30) and K. Somu Venkata Durga Ganesh Kumar (41) both from Vijayawada, and D. Rama Krishna (30) Visakhapatnam Rural.

The police also recovered 250 grams of gold jewellery, two cars, four two-wheelers and Rs 51,000 cash from their possession. They were involved in about 20 crimes under various police stations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state.

Meanwhile, police arrested five people, including three women, for smuggling ganja at Dorala Gorilu area under Kadapa Two Town police station. Kadapa in-charge DSP Ravikumar told reporters that Kadapa urban police inspector Mohmmed Ali and SI Jeevan Reddy had led the operation. They recovered 4.2 kg of ganja from them. A case has been filed against all of them.
