ANANTAPUR: A woman field assistant working at Marepalli in Kuppam mandal of Chittoor district, who had been dismissed for alleged irregularities a few days ago, attempted to commit suicide while Deputy Chief Minister Narayana Swamy had been undertaking his Gadapa Gadapaku programme in Marepalli village on Wednesday.

Field assistant Ponnamma complained that the village sarpanch had got her suspended after she refused to commit irregularities in the works being carried out in the village. She sought justice for herself.

Ponnamma attempted suicide by consuming a pesticide when village leaders did not allow her to submit her representation to Narayana Swamy.

She has been shifted to a hospital.
