Hyderabad: The death of a 20-year-old man at a private rehabilitation centre turned out to be a case of murder, the police said, blaming inmates undergoing de-addiction treatment for marijuana abuse for the incident. Six inmates of the Serenity Foundation were arrested on Wednesday.

The Trimulgherry police said the victim was stabbed with a ball pen in his throat and his throat slashed with a blade, killing him on the spot. Since the body was found in a washroom with broken windowpanes, the police suspected it to be a case of suicide.

The police said that after autopsy reports confirmed murder, they started questioning the staff and inmates, leading them to find that an argument broke out between the accused and the victim, following which they forced him into a washroom, killed him and made it appear like a suicide.

The accused were produced before court and sent to judicial remand. Since they are addicts, prison authorities were directed to provide necessary treatment and keep them under observation.
