Nizamabad: A thief attempted to steal money from the Indian Overseas Bank at Dubbak branch in Dharpally mandal in the early hours of Tuesday. However, his plan was foiled and caught red-handed after the bank siren was wailed by the officials. The offender entered the bank by breaking the locks on Monday midnight. However, as he proceeded inside, the bank officials, alerted by the anti-theft security system, blew the siren of the bank, which alerted the staff who reside at Dubbak. Then, they, in turn, immediately alerted the police and locals.

The local residents rushed to the spot and locked the shutter of the bank from outside with the thief inside. Meanwhile, the police teams reached the bank and took the accused into their custody.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nizamabad assistant commissioner of police M. Kiran Kumar said that the accused belongs to Renjal and came to Dubbak to visit his relatives. Noticing the locked bank, the accused, who was in inebriated condition, entered into the bank by breaking open the locks, he said. Dharpally police registered a case and were investigating.
