Bhopal: A young couple who got married against family’s wishes were allegedly beaten and forced to drink urine in Madhya Pradesh’s tribal-dominated Alirajpur district.

According to reports, the man, Ramesh alias Hitesh (21) and his wife, Nankibai (19) were abducted from the husband’s uncle house at around 4 am on July 25.

The man was tied to a pole and thrashed brutally and the woman was partially stripped and her hair was chopped off.

The couple was also forced to drink urine by the accused.

While setting the couple free, the accused told them that the torture was for marrying against the wishes of the woman’s parents.

The couple later approached the police and filed a complaint against the woman’s father, her uncles and others.

“Two of the accused have been arrested,” a police official said.

The couple had eloped two and half months back and got married. Later, the two were brought before the tribal panchayat which slapped Rs 70,000 fine on Ramesh’s family.

Though Ramesh’s kin paid the amount along with two goats, the woman’s family did not accept the marriage.
