Hyderabad: Police constable kills stepmother over property

Yadaiah had married two women and Srikanth was the son of his first wife.

Hyderabad: A police constable working in the City Security Wing of Hyderabad has been accused of killing his stepmother by slitting her throat at her house in Madannapet on Tuesday. The police suspect that a property dispute was the motive. Special teams have been formed to nab the absconding constable.

Kolanu Srikanth, a resident of BHEL, was a police constable in the City Security Wing. His father K. Yadaiah died of ill-health on February 25 this year. Yadaiah had married two women and Srikanth was the son of his first wife. The second wife Sukanya, 56, and her two teenage children live at Boya Basthi in Madannapet.

After his father’s death, Srikanth quarreled with his stepmother Sukanya about the share she got of his father’s property and demanded she give it back to him.

According to the police, at around 7.30 am on Tuesday, Srikanth went to Sukanya’s house when her two children were asleep and threw chilli powder on her face and then slit her throat with a knife.
