Crackdown on Illicit Activities in Nandyal District

Kurnool: In a coordinated raid, police and excise officials arrested 13 individuals involved in the production, transport, and sale of illicit liquor across Nandyal district on Saturday. 91 litres of ready-made liquor and 600 litres of jaggery wash were seized during the operation.

Another raid near Sirivella police station netted a suspect illegally transporting 160 bags of PDS rice, which were subsequently confiscated. Meanwhile, a gambling den near Mahanandi police station was busted, leading to the arrest of nine individuals and the seizure of Rs. 25,000.

Elsewhere in the district, 11 vehicles were seized and drivers booked for drunk driving, while seven cases of open drinking were also registered. Additionally, 52 bind-over cases were processed against individuals for various offenses.

Superintendent of Police G. Krishnakanth stressed the need for heightened vigilance at border checkpoints between Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, particularly with the upcoming elections in mind.

During a surprise inspection at the Panchalingala check post, Mr. Krishnakanth emphasized the importance of thorough vehicle inspections to identify and curb the movement of liquor and illegal funds. He instructed officers and staff at the check post to maintain strict vigilance and implement measures to prevent such illegal activities.
