Cops Grill Kabir Over Audio Clip

Berhampore: Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder and Nowda MLA Humayun Kabir faced questioning over four hours at Berhampore police station in Murshidabad of West Bengal on Monday after he appeared there responding to summons in a case about a controversial audio clip. He was served a notice by the cops on September 19.
Police earlier arrested a youth, Sarfaraz Nawaz Chowdhury, who reportedly spoke to Mr Kabir to get his permission to hoist BJP flags at the construction site of his controversial Babri Masjid-styled mosque apparently to trigger communal tensions before the Rejinagar assembly bypoll. After facing marathon grilling, Mr Kabir claimed, “Am I so stupid that I will foment communal tensions? It is an edited audio clip as part of a BJP ploy to malign my image before the bypoll.”
He however admitted that he knew the individual who had called him. Mr Kabir also lodged a complaint at the Election Commission alleging police atrocities which included arrests of his party workers. Meanwhile, Republican Party of India leader Raju Ghosh lodged a fresh FIR at Berhampore police station against Mr Kabir on Monday. He accused him of threatening to kill his party candidate, Imran Khan, and others.
