BHOPAL: A severe cold wave swept across Madhya Pradesh disrupting normal life in the state.

Temperature plunged below 6 degree Celsius in 11 cities in the state with the northwestern town of Mandsaur recording the lowest temperature of 2.9 degree Celsius.

Other cities which recorded below 6 degree Celsius were Shajapur ( 3.1) Kalyanpur (3.2), Rajgarh (3.8), Nowgong (4.6), Bhopal (4.6), Umaria (4.7), Pachmarhi (4.8), Khajuraho (five), Malajkhand (5.6), and Rewa (5.8).

Temperature dropped below 10 degree Celsius across 30 cities in the state.

Prominent among them were Indore (6.2), Gwalior (6.7), Ujjain (7.3) and Jabalpur (7.4).

The Meteorological Department on Sunday issued a cold wave alert for Bhopal, Indore, Shajapur, sehore, and Rajgarh.

Daytime temperature in these districts remained below 25-degree Celsius.

Intense cold waves gripped particularly the Malwa and Nimar regions of the state, leaving 15 districts in Indore and Ujjain divisions to experience chilly winter.

The cold wave has disrupted normal life in the state with roads deserted after eight pm.

The dense fog in over 16 districts disrupted train services.

The Met office has warned that a Western Disturbance may affect the Western Himalayan region on December 30, bringing Madhya Pradesh under the grip of a cold wave.

Cold winds accompanying this system are likely to intensify the existing chill.

The current winter has broken many records.

November saw Bhopal experience a cold wave for 15 days- the longest since 1931.
