Class 11 Student Dies After Falling From 10th Floor Of Bhubaneswar Apartment; Police Probe Circumstances

Bhubaneswar: A Class 11 student of a private school in Bhubaneswar died on Monday after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment building in the city's Chandrasekharpur area, with police suspecting he fell while attempting to flee after visiting a female classmate at her residence.
The incident occurred at Jalvayu Tower, where the student had allegedly gone to meet his classmate when she was alone at home, police said.
According to Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Meena, the situation took an unexpected turn when the girl's mother returned home earlier than expected after finishing a half-day shift.
“In a state of panic, the boy first hid inside the bathroom and locked the door from the inside,” the DCP told reporters.
Police said that when the bathroom door was eventually opened, the boy was nowhere to be found. Preliminary investigation suggests that he attempted to escape through the bathroom window by climbing onto the external pipes running along the building's duct.
“The investigation suggests that he tried to hide near the pipes in the duct adjacent to the bathroom. His school bag was found hanging from a pipe on the ninth floor. It appears that he lost his balance and fell from there,” Meena said.
The student sustained fatal injuries in the fall. His body was recovered and sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A scientific team visited the spot and collected forensic evidence, while police have seized CCTV footage from the apartment complex as part of the investigation.
Police have also questioned the girl's family members to reconstruct the sequence of events.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been registered. Officials said the exact circumstances leading to the fall were yet to be established, and all angles, including the possibility of an accidental fall or any other circumstances, are being examined.
“This unfortunate incident appears to have occurred following panic during an adolescent relationship,” the DCP said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
The deceased student's family had not issued any public statement till the filing of this report.
