CJP Demands Impartial Probe Into Chorbagan Stampede That Killed 19
West Bengal Unit Seeks Accountability For Established Negligence, Stronger Crowd-Management Measures, Safety Audits And Timely Relief For Victims’ Families.
The Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) West Bengal unit on Saturday demanded an impartial investigation into the Chorbagan stampede that claimed 19 lives, calling for accountability if negligence is established during the probe.
The party organised a condolence programme and a press conference to pay tribute to the victims and express solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy. Party members conveyed their condolences and stressed the need for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Addressing the press conference, a CJP member called for comprehensive safety audits, the deployment of trained personnel, effective emergency evacuation plans and improved coordination among emergency services to strengthen crowd management at public gatherings.
In a statement, CJP coordinator Prakriti Sahu outlined the party’s demands, which included timely financial assistance and medical support for the bereaved families and those injured in the incident. The party also called for stronger safety guidelines for major public gatherings and festival pandals across West Bengal.
CJP emphasised the importance of keeping the public informed about the progress of the investigation and relief measures. It urged the authorities concerned to provide regular updates and ensure transparency throughout the inquiry.
The party said it would submit its demands in writing to the relevant authorities and seek information about the action taken in response. It also called for a comprehensive review of crowd-management arrangements, emergency exits, medical facilities, event permissions and the response of officials and agencies involved in managing the gathering.
The party said such a review was necessary to identify possible lapses, establish responsibility where warranted and strengthen safety protocols for future events. CJP further appealed to civil society organisations and citizens to extend support to the affected families and assist ongoing efforts to address the consequences of the tragedy.
Reiterating its demand for an impartial probe, the party said accountability and stronger preventive measures were essential to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of similar incidents in West Bengal.
