Civil Servants Vital to Viksit Bharat: VP
VP calls on young officers to drive inclusive development towards Viksit Bharat 2047
Dehradun: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday said civil servants were a vital link in translating the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 into reality and urged them to make Sevabhav and Kartavyabodh — a spirit of service and a sense of duty — their guiding principles.
Addressing the valedictory programme of the Phase-II training of IAS officer trainees of the 2024 batch at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie, Radhakrishnan said the civil services had made immense contributions to the country’s development.
Speaking on the second day of his Uttarakhand visit, he said civil servants remained a crucial link between policy and its implementation at the grassroots.
Referring to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the Vice-President urged the young officers to ensure that development was inclusive and reached the last mile.
He called on them to strive for team excellence rather than individual or group excellence. Officers should build cohesive teams, motivate colleagues and carry forward good practices established by their predecessors, he said.
Radhakrishnan welcomed the increasing representation of women in the civil services, noting that women constituted around 41 per cent of the 2024 batch.
“This development is a powerful testament to Nari Shakti, where talent rises above stereotypes and determination overcomes obstacles,” he said.
The Vice-President urged the officers to embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning and blockchain, to improve administrative efficiency, transparency and citizen service delivery.
Continuous learning, adaptability and preparedness for future challenges were essential for success in a civil service career, he added.
Stressing that character and integrity formed the foundations of public service, Radhakrishnan said true leadership was measured not by power or position but by the ability to act ethically, even in difficult situations.
He urged the officer trainees to make their service meaningful by transforming lives in the remotest parts of the country and ensuring that every grievance was heard and every citizen empowered.
