New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday intensified his “vote chori” (vote theft) allegations, accusing the poll panel of acting like an “election watchman who stayed awake, watched the theft, and protected the thieves.”
In a fresh offensive, Gandhi posted in Hindi on X: “Wake up at 4 am, eliminate two voters in 36 seconds, then go back to sleep — this is how vote theft happens! Chunaav ka chaukidar jaagta raha, chori dekhta raha, choron ko bachata raha (The election watchman stayed awake, watched the theft, and protected the thieves).” He also shared a 36-second video from his press conference explaining the alleged modus operandi.
The BJP hit back at the LoP as Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said the Congress leader should take responsibility for his repeated electoral defeats instead of targeting institutions. Rijiju responded: “If you lose elections repeatedly, you should acknowledge your weaknesses and accept the failure of your leadership. Instead, you start blaming institutions. Is that the right way?” He accused Gandhi of diverting attention from his failures and claimed that his remarks often echoed anti-India propaganda. “Whatever narratives Pakistan creates, Rahul Gandhi and his group propagate here. For years, what they say has been used by anti-India groups in Pakistan,” he alleged.
His remarks came a day after Gandhi accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of protecting those behind “vote theft” and claimed that names of Congress voters were being systematically deleted from electoral rolls in Karnataka.
Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad also accused Gandhi of “systematically and deliberately trying to weaken democracy.” Speaking to reporters in Bihar, the former Union law minister said, “Rahul Gandhi is trying to create anarchy in the country… He is systematically weakening democracy.” Referring to Gandhi’s posts, he alleged the Congress leader was trying to “promote violence” by appealing to the youth and students.
The BJP further targeted the Congress over remarks by Gandhi aide Sam Pitroda, who recently said he felt “at home” in Pakistan. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused the Congress of insulting India’s sovereignty, alleging the party’s leadership backed such statements. “Can a patriot ever say that a terror state like Pakistan is home? This is an insult to our soldiers and 140 crore Indians. If this is not anti-national, then what is?” he said, recalling Congress’ “inaction” after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
