Chhattisgarh Court Orders Probe Against Ex-India Cricketer Rajesh Chouhan in ‘Fraud Case’
The court has ordered the police to investigate a transport related fraud case against former India cricketer Rajesh Chouhan.
Raipur: A local court in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district has ordered the police to probe into an alleged fraud case against former India cricketer Rajesh Chouhan and submit a report.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Durg, Aiswarya Dewan, ordered the police to investigate into an alleged fraud case amounting to Rs 15 lakh against the ex-India off spinner while taking cognizance of a petition filed by alleged victim, Dinkar Vishwamitra, police said.
The application was filed by the petitioner under Section 175 (3) of Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) (empowering a magistrate to order the police to register and investigate a cognizable offence if the police previously refused to do so).
“The court has ordered the police to investigate a transport related fraud case against former India cricketer Rajesh Chouhan. The police will investigate the case and submit the report to the court and act as per the direction of the court”, a senior district police officer said on Wednesday.
According to the complainant, Chouhan wooed him for partnership with his transport company, making him believe with alleged forged documents that he had secured a contract for transporting iron ore and other materials to Jindal Steel Limited in Keonjhar in Odisha.
An agreement was signed between them on July 30, 2021, according to the petitioner’s counsel Saurav Chaubey.
The petitioner had made initial payment of Rs 2.51 lakh and later transferred to the account of Chouhan’s company Rs 15.02 lakh in two instalments, according to the counsel.
Chouhan had played 21 Test matches for India, taking 47 wickets.
He had also played 35 One Day Internationals, claiming 29 wickets.
