Chhattisgarh CM Sai Raises Sugarcane Procurement Price To ₹425 Per Quintal
Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai has raised the sugarcane procurement price from ₹355 to ₹425 per quintal for the 2025–26 crushing season.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday made an upward revision of the sugarcane procurement price from Rs.355 per quintal to Rs. 425 per quintal.
Mr. Sai’s decision comes after his meeting with a delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) here, officials said.
“The decision to increase the sugarcane procurement price aims at ensuring the right and better price to the farmers of their agricultural produce and making agriculture for the farmers a dignified and lucrative livelihood”, the chief minister said.
The sugar mills in the state are directed to procure sugarcane from the growers at the revised rate of Rs. 425 per quintal, officials said.
The enhanced rate of Rs. 425 per quintal applies to the sugarcane purchased in the 2025-26 crushing season.
There are four cooperative sugar mills operating across Chhattisgarh.
The state produces roughly 1.86 million tons to 2.04 million tons of sugarcane annually.
Chhattisgarh however reported sugarcane production of 1,866,000 tons recently, down from 2,041,000 tons in the preceding year.
Sugarcane cultivation in the state covers an area of roughly 31,000 to 35,000 hectares.
The average yield stands at 55.9 to 60 tons per hectare.
The major sugarcane-growing and sugar-producing hubs in the state include districts of Kabirdham (Kawardha), Surajpur and Balod.
Instead of direct input subsidy, the Chhattisgarh government supports sugarcane growers primarily through hiked procurement and support prices paid directly at state cooperative sugar mills.
Shareholder farmers connected to these sugar mills also receive added welfare perks, such as the distribution of a 50 kg-bag of sugar at a subsidized rate of Rs. 30 per kg.
