RAIPUR: Union home minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive here late on Friday evening on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh.

Mr. Shah is scheduled to arrive here at 8.11 pm and spend the night here.

He is scheduled to leave for Jagdalpur, headquarters of Bastar, to attend a series of cultural programmes and strategically significant events.

Mr. Shah’s visit to Bastar follows the invitations from the local member of the parliament, the Bastar Dussehra committee, and the tribal chieftains known as Manjis.

He is scheduled to attend the Muria Durbar- a traditional tribal council-, as a part of Bastar Dussehra festival, known as the longest festival in the world that runs for 75 days.

He is expected to share meals with the tribal community leaders and tribal priests on the occasion.

Mr. Shah may also review anti-Naxal operations during his stay in Bastar.

His visit comes a day after a record number of 103 Maoists, 49 of them carrying a cumulative of Rs 1.06 crore, surrendered in Bijapur in south Bastar on Thursday.

Those who surrendered include key functionaries such as the president of the Dandakaranya Special Janatana Government, members of the People’s Congress, area committee members, divisional committee members, Janatana Government members, militia platoon cadres, and workers of the frontal organizations like CNM, KAMS, and DAKMS.
